Distracted Driving? Stop!

Have you noticed distracted driving?

Who has not?  So, most of us drive to work on a daily basis.  For those of you taking the train, or subway, you may be safer than us motorists braving the mean local streets, by-ways and distracted drivinghighways

I cannot drive down the road without noticing several different motorists looking at their lap.  Why you ask?  Well, many reasons I guess, whether they are picking up the doughnut that they dropped, maybe wiping the spilled coffee off their pants, adjusting their temperature controls,  Garmin GPS or maybe Texting!  I would bet that Texting is the most predominant reason a driver is staring at their lap…….

Kind of scary.  On a daily basis I witness vehicles swerving, braking or drifting and wonder, are they under the influence of something?  Yeah, they are probably under the influence of Textoholism.  Not sure that is a word but, really.

So, what is distracted driving?  According to the official US Government website for distracted driving: Distracted driving is any activity that could divert a person’s attention away from the primary task of driving.  All distractions endanger driver, passenger, and bystander safety.

Whether you are texting, using a cell or smartphone, eating, drinking, talking to passengers, grooming, reading, using GPS, watching a video or TV or adjusting the radio or temperature controls you are distracted!

According to the government, texting seems to one of the scarier distractions because it requires visual, manual and cognitive attention from the driver!!!  Scary!
